Poppy with Box Pleat

Updated: Aug 2, 2023

We take a fresh look at the Children’s Corner Poppy pattern. For a more tailored look, we straightened out the pleats in the front to make a box pleat. This great pattern already has hidden side pockets that we know she will love. Follow the Poppy Sew Along Video for complete instructions.

*Available at childrenscornerstore.com while supplies last.

Supplies

Children’s Corner Poppy Fabric (add 1/4 to cover requirements) Piping – 1 1/2 yards Buttons – see pattern cover Featherweight fusible interfacing Fabric glue stick – optional

Drafting Instructions

1. Straighten out top edge of front and back skirts by drawing a line from the straight neck edge to the upper corner of the armhole. Fold over pattern across this line. This straight edge will be the top of the skirt. 2. For the front skirt move center front “cut on fold” line away from the folded edge of the fabric. Use chart below for distance to move it over. 3. For the back skirt use chart below to move pattern away from the back skirt center cut line.

4. If desired remove width from the front and back shoulder by making a mark 1/2" over from the outer shoulder seamline. Use a ruler to draw a straight line from this mark to the lower yoke corner. Fold over pattern along this line on both front and back yokes.

Marking Box Pleat

5. Fold front skirt in half along center front with wrong sides together. 6. Mark center front. 7. Using the chart below measure over this length from the center front fold and make a dot. 8. Measure over the same distance from the dot and make a second mark 1 inch long. 9. Flip fabric over and make the same markings on the other side of the front skirt.

Construction

10. Follow the Poppy Sew Along Video for complete instructions. 11. See The Corner Stitch blog post “Victoria with Ruffle Sleeve” for instructions to add that if desired.
