Patch Pocket

Add a little pizazz to your next outfit! This simple pocket can be added after you are finished sewing for storage for all their little treasures. Pictured here on a Katina sundress.

Construction

1. Cut out pocket, pocket flap using the pattern provided (download here).

2. Interface pocket flap.

3. Trim corded piping seam to ¼”.

4. Sew piping to right side of top of pocket using ¼” seam.

5. Place pocket flap on top of pocket right sides together. Stitch using stitching line of piping as a guide (1/4”).  Press seam allowance toward flap.  Remove cording from ends of piping.

6. Press pocket and using tracing paper trace pocket. Cut out pocket lining.

7. With right sides together stitch pocket to pocket lining using ¼” seam leaving a one inch opening on one side.  Trim corners diagonally.  Turn pocket to right side out and press.

8. Position pocket on the child’s right side. The pocket should be centered at the halfway point of the side seam and the halfway point between the side seam and the dress center front.


9. Topstitch pocket to dress using a 1/8” seam.
