Supplies

Use notions per the Alex pattern. You will need an additional 2/3yd of 1/4" elastic for the legs.

Instructions

1. Trace romper pattern pieces front and back on paper. Measure over 2” from bottom of outside leg. Mark. Connect the mark to top outside leg edge with a straight edge. You are adding 2” to front leg width as well as back leg width. You will use this new front and back pattern piece for both outer fabric and lining.

2. Follow Alex Romper instructions 1-17.

3. Turn romper to wrong side. With right sides together stitch crotch. Do same with crotch lining.

4. Reach inside opening in lining (see step 8 in Alex instructions) and pull one leg up thru opening and stitch around bottom of leg. Push leg back down thru opening and bring second leg up thru and stitch around bottom of leg. Push leg back down thru opening. Press legs.

5. Topstitch around each leg opening 1/16” from seam using a stitch length of 3mm.

6. Make casing by stitching 3/8” from topstitching starting and stopping at ends of casing backstitching at each end.  Leave both ends open.

7. Cut 2 pieces of 1/4” elastic 10 long (or adjust accordingly for your child). Reach in opening in lining and pull elastic thru casing using safety pins on each end of elastic. Secure elastic at each end of casing opening. Remove safety pins. 8. Follow step 20 in Alex instructions to close opening in lining. 9. Follow steps 39-41 to finish romper.
