What is Row by Row?
Our Row by Row 2017 pattern and kit will ship beginning November 1, 2017. You may pre-order now to be shipped on November 1st. As a participating member of the Row x Row program, we will be giving away this Junior pattern to any young person walking into our shop before September 5, 2017 in Nashville.
With a primary goal to encourage customers to visit and experience the many delightful fabric stores across the country, Row by Row Experience began in 2011 with 20 quilt shops across New York State. Six years later, more than 2,500 shops across the US, Europe and Canada are participating this year.
Our row highlights fabrics from our store including Liberty of London and applique techniques. While this can be used in a quilt, we also see our "row" pattern as a fun project to add to a Lillian or down the side of Parker's Pants.
When visiting our store you may purchase a kit with the fabrics to create our row. Our pattern and kit are only available to customers in the store during the dates of this special program. Beginning November 1, 2017 The "Let's Go Fly a Kite" Pattern and kit will be shipped for any pre-orders and available for purchase online. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you in the shop between June 21st and September 5th.
Rules of the Game
Simply visit a participating shop between June 21st and September 5th and receive a free pattern for a row in a quilt. Combine your rows to create a unique quilt that represents the fun you had traveling throughout the summer. Travel with friends, discover new quilt shops and have fun collecting rows. Create a quilt using at least 8 different rows from 2017 participating RxR shops and be the first to bring it into a participating shop to win a stack of 25 fat quarters (6-1/4 yards of fabric!).

Row by Row Junior
We are also participating in the exciting new program - Row by Row Junior. It’s designed for kids ages 6 to 14. They travel along with an adult. They collect free row patterns designed just for them to make and they can learn to sew at home. Junior follows the same rules and time schedule as adult Row by Row Experience, June 21 through Labor Day. Kids need to be in the shop to get the free pattern handout, but anyone can buy a kit. Grandmothers and travelling family can bring them home as gifts or souvenirs.
Row by Row Junior organizers designed the five different row patterns so you can be sure they are kid-friendly. Make it an adventure traveling to collect all five and seeing how different shops make up their row. Our row is High Tops. We have kits available for sale in the store. Choose from kits with either primary or pastel colors for the shoes.
We’ll be awarding “I Made This!” ribbons to the first five kids who return with something made using a Row by Row Junior pattern. Any sewing effort will be celebrated, not just quilting. “We want our kids to learn how to sew and carry on this craft that’s so dear to us,” explains Janet Lutz, Row by Row’s founder. “Travelling to new places, collecting something just for them, visiting Grandma, summer vacation...this is all part of the wonder and excitement of Row by Row Experience. Please join us.”
Part of the fun association with Row by Row Experience are the license plates you can collect from around the world. This summer, our plate features one of our favorite techniques, "Sit & Smock." Smocking is a centuries-old form of needlework consisting of surface embroidery stitches worked over gathered fabric. Want to learn how to smock? Ask us, it would be our joy to help you learn. The license plate is printed on 100% cotton sateen and are perfect for collecting and adding to projects.
We can't wait to see you on your travels this summer!
